Come
back for lunch ...
... but first get up early and go out and
about. Several towns within half an hour's drive all have
different days for street markets, where you can buy or browse
among such a variety of stalls: foodstuffs like cheeses and hams,
dresses and bags, arts & crafts, and much more. There are also many towns with ancient
buildings and towers, a delight for the sightseer,
photographer or artist; a study project for the historian. Some parts of
these towns have been sympathetically restored, with modern pavements
for modern visitors, such as in Cancon (picture below). Touring around you will take time to stop off
road (try Tourtres for example, not far from Canard Ferme) to enjoy a
picnic with a panorama of the countryside. So many places to visit that
we cannot do justice to all the possibilities on one short page. Please
refer to the collected notes in your gite. There
are also many good restaurants within half an hour's drive. A typical
menu for €14 (£10) is something you'll write home about!. But if
eating at home is your preference, there is an excellent supermarket on
the north side of Miramont whose selection, variety and prices will
amaze you: fresh fruit & veg.; wines, beers & spirits;
delicatessen counter to put your French language to the test; toothbrush
you forgot to pack. |
